Kim Gordon - "ECRP"
Stream / Download "ECRP"
Stream / Purchase 'The Collective'
Ahead of her summer European tour kicking off tonight, Kim Gordon has released a new non-album single, “ECRP,” with an accompanying video once again featuring, this time as director, her daughter, Coco Gordon Moore. In it, quick-cutting shots of a variety of New York street scenes augment the Justin Raisen-produced song’s disorienting sonics, as Gordon intones of “rumors of free speech” and “ashes on the nightstand.”
Having just wrapped a run of North American dates, including a packed gig at New York’s Central Park SummerStage, Gordon will begin a European run Tuesday (June 25) in London. Dates are on the books through Nov. 11 in Lisbon. For a complete itinerary and more information, visit kimaltheagordon.com.

Pavement - "Summer Babe" (Dir. Tanya Small)
Pavement has released a recently unearthed music video for 'Slanted and Enchanted' single "Summer Babe," shot in the Spring of 1992 by Tanya Small.
"The story line for the video is the same as Grease's but without a happy ending. Two people from different backgrounds -- an indie rocker and a club kid -- separately waxing nostalgic about their time together. Back then, it was unlikely a club kid would be caught dead with an indie rocker.
It was filmed on 16mm and Super 8 film and edited on video. I was a teenager when I made this -- into Stan Brakhage and Beatles films. It took less than 2 hours to film. All the footage was lost except for a VHS tape with this edit with its enduring timecode. The version of Summer Babe was from an unmastered cassette. The club kid outift was borrowed from Love Saves the Day.
It was filmed on a pier in Greenpoint and in Central Park.
Spiral and Gary were in Stockton which is why it was put on the shelf until now." - Director, Tanya Small

King Krule - 'SHHHHHHH!' EP
"Time For Slurp"
directed by King Krule
stream/purchase
On 9 June 2023, Archy Marshall released 'Space Heavy', his fourth studio album under his musical alias King Krule. The 15-track full-length was released to critical acclaim with The Guardian describing it as “genre-busting experimentalism”, MOJO as “another mesmerising, profound, excellent record” while The Times exclaimed “Archy “King Krule” Marshall, one of the most original songwriters of his generation”.
One year on, the South London multi-hyphenate returns to release a new EP titled 'SHHHHHH!'. The record features four much-talked-about, highly sought-after tracks - “Achtung”, “All Soup Now”, “Time For Slurp”, “Whaleshark” - that previously were only available via flexi-discs sold during King Krule’s 2023 Shhhhh Tour and will be made available on all digital platforms and to buy on 7” LP for the very first time.
To celebrate the release, King Krule shares a self-directed music video for “Time For Slurp”, a track that quickly became a fan favourite following its debut at the first SHHHHH! Tour show in La Marbrerie in Paris (the original flexi-disc listed as high as £1000 on Discogs). Shot in black and white by Josh Renaut, Archy Marshall and his SHHHH Tour bandmates Ignacio Salvadores (Saxophonist) and George Bass (Drummer) don oars and wade aimlessly through the swamp.

Butthole Surfers - "Locust Abortion Technician', 'Hairway To Steven' and 'Cream Corn From The Socket Of Davis' Reissues

Matador Records is pleased to continue our reissue series documenting key catalog titles by the iconic Texas band, The Butthole Surfers. Today, remastered audio for ‘Locust Abortion Technician’ (1987), ‘Hairway to Steven’ (1988), and ‘Cream Corn From the Socket of Davis’ (1985) – records that are widely considered to have defined the band’s deeply gonzo and psychedelic imperial phase – have been made available on streaming services with vinyl to follow on September 20th.

Byron Coley on The Butthole Surfers Pt. II:
Matador’s Butthole Surfers reissue series continues with three of the Texas band’s most insane slabs – ‘Cream Corn from the Socket of Davis’ (1985), ‘Locust Abortion Technician’ (1987), and ‘Hairway to Steven’ (1988) – all originally released on the Touch & Go label.
The period during which these records were first issued parallels the Buttholes' transition from weirdo Texas outcasts to internationally recognized smut-kings of the American underground. In 1985 they were still the sole province of hallucinogen-soaked punk rock freaks. By 1988 they had toured Europe, had records licensed internationally, and bought a house in Driftwood Texas to serve as their home base. But we're getting ahead of ourselves.
‘Cream Corn’ was released before ‘Rembrandt Pussyhorse,’ but that's only because Alternative Tentacles was still dithering about whether they were going to put it out (they eventually passed). The EP plucked two tunes from ‘Rembrandt’ and added a couple new ones that had been recorded on their home studio 8-track in Winterville, Georgia. “Moving to Florida” (the best example ever of what Beefheart probably sounded like while he was tripping) and the other three tracks blew peoples' minds by being so precise and fully messed-up at the same time. ‘Cream Corn’ was a perfect bite-sized taster for what would follow.
‘Locust Abortion Technician’ was also recorded at the Butthole house in Winterville (most of it actually being finished before ‘Cream Corn’). By this point Jeff Pinkus had joined as bass player (a role he would fill until 1996) and drummer Teresa Taylor returned to the fold after a hiatus to deal with health and personal issues. Without anyone looking over their shoulders, the band really rose to the occasion. From the opening track, “Sweat Loaf,” which quotes Black Sabbath with results both hilarious and bowel-stomping, to the scuzz-guitar riven “found” vocals of “22 Going on 23,” Locust is a non-stop face-full of hallucinogenic gas. Maniacal sludge guitar figures and Gibbytronix vocals are smeared everywhere with most excellent results. For many folks, ‘Locust’ represents the album with which the Buttholes fully fulfilled their insane potential.
‘Hairway to Steven’ was recorded after the band relocated to Driftwood, at a studio in Dallas. The sessions went fast because the band was more or less laying down new songs from the live set they'd been touring for a while. And although those songs now have actual titles – when the album was first released, the tunes were denoted by small cartoon drawings, in an attempt to assure the impossibility of radio play – the music is a blast, ranging from the blood-smeared guitar-overload of “Jimi” to the acoustic guitar-based sing-along sweetness of “I Saw an X-Ray of a Girl Passing Gas” to the Fugs-like ranting of “John E. Smokes.” Yet somehow, the record managed to get the straight media to actually notice. For all its strangeness, Hairway got rave notices in places that had never paid the band any attention previously. It was the Buttholes' last album of the '80s and marks the beginning of their ascendance into something akin to commercial success. Not that the band actually imagined anything at all like that occurring.
When I interviewed them in February, 1986, I asked Gibby about their plans. He said: “We've got a bunch of new songs recorded that don't even have names. We don't know what they're called or anything. It's totally out of control. We have no plans whatsoever. We never claimed to be quick or smart or anything. Maybe we just have one song and we fuck it up so much people think we have more. I guess the album after ‘Locust Abortion Technician’ might be called ‘The Butthole Surfers Buy a Synthesizer.’ We've written lots of songs, we've forgotten lots of songs. That's the way it goes.”
Of course, that's not the way it went. But I don't think anyone was more surprised about that than the band themselves. And so it goes.

The rest of the year will see further European dates, their debut shows in Japan, New Zealand, Australia and Indonesia, and festivals including Glastonbury, Lowlands, Green Man, Rock En Seine, Iceland Airways and others.
Written directly after 'The Twits,' the three unreleased tracks on 'Tw*ts' – "The only conscious being in the universe," "Sarcoustica" and "drumstart" – were originally intended as B-sides to the single "sounds like you had to be there" from the album and share a similar sonic world to it, making for a companion piece to this period of the band’s output.

Coming September 20 : Perfume Genius - 'Too Bright' 10th Anniversary Edition
"Queen" - directed by SSION
preorder / stream 'Too Bright' 10th Anniversary Edition
This year marks the 10th anniversary of Perfume Genius’ critically acclaimed album Too Bright, originally released by Matador on September 23, 2014. The third record by Perfume Genius (Mike Hadreas), it marked a significant departure from the artist’s earlier work with its bold, avant-garde sound and introspective lyrics. The LP featured the standout single "Queen", Hadreas’ confrontational dissection of “gay panic,” which Pitchfork said “sounds like triumph amid the pathetic relevancy of its subject matter in 2014.” The song was a jolt in the cultural discourse and has since become a fan-favorite.
To celebrate this milestone, Perfume Genius has announced the Too Bright 10th Anniversary Tour, with dates kicking off September 16 at The Atlantis in Washington, D.C. and concluding with a two-night stand at the Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever in Los Angeles on September 26 and 27. The tour stops at Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn on September 17. Throughout the tour Perfume Genius will play the Too Bright album in its entirety. All dates are below and tickets are on sale Friday, June 7 at 10AM local time.
