This is really happening right now at Pillar 6 at AUS.Coachella Unofficially: Catch The Cave Singers And Sneak A Listen To "The Eternal"
April 14th, 2009 at 2:09 pm

Rather, I will be suffering through Broachella to hand deliver a test pressing (approved hopefully) of Sonic Youth's new album to spin at the Ace Hotel on Saturday from 2-4pm.
The Cave Singers will be teeing off the event by playing from 1-2pm out by the pool. Embedded to the right is a flyer with a RSVP if you care to attend. (click on it to make it bigger)
Thanks to the Ace Hotel for sorting this out and prepare thyselves for a big order of those famous snow cones. We're always looking for new ways to cool off 10,000 Marbles.
Programming note: This having Matador bands host SY listening parties might actually turn into something, so stay tuned.
Matador Heads To The Arctic Circle
June 17th, 2008 at 7:57 am
Not every day do you get offered the opportunity to head to the North Pole, but last week I did just that. I'm not one for holiday-blogging but I figured this might rival Patrick's culinary exploits.Last week I was lucky enough to head to the most northerly inhabited place on the planet - Longyearbyen in Svalbard, North of Norway. This tiny 'town' inhabits only 2000 people, with probably more polar bears and reindeer than there are humans. It took no less than three flights to get there, landing in between mountains on an incredibly small runway.

The reason I was there is somewhat ridiculous, but it involved a competition run by a tortilla crisp company. Your every day polar-sponsoring company. My friend won the competition and as part of the prize, he walked into the Guinness Book of Records as the First Advert in Space. You'd probably think that they'd send something slightly more meaningful into space in an attempt to reach out to possible life forms, but no, advertising crisps to the largest audience possible was what went first.
So we headed to a space station on top of a mountain and sent the message of Chilli Heatwave and Tangy Cheese to Ursa Major.

Truly the most beautiful place i've ever been. Rook got an airing at about 3am as we tried to cope with the 24hr sunlight streaming through the window. If you ever get the opportunity to head to the arctic circle courtesy of a tasty snack, I wholeheartedly endorse it.

Jicks From Above
April 28th, 2008 at 4:08 pm

For those of us who didn't spend the weekend baking away in the Coachella sun, a friend of the Matablog sent along some photos of our first experiment with skywriting. To celebrate Stephen Malkmus and The Jicks' performance we emblazoned the skies with their name. It went so well that we'll be floating triumphantly above every summer festival this year! Keep an eye on the sky!
Incidentally, we are currently running a Stephen Malkmus Bundle Sale. You can get all 4 Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks CDs (Stephen Malkmus, Pig Lib, Face The Truth, Real Emotional Trash) plus a free rare 7" flexi of "Jojo's Jacket", all for $40. Supplies of the flexi-7" are very limited.
