BASSIN’ AROUND
by James

What's new with me? Gosh, I don't know. Went to see The Kids in the Hall at the Academy in NYC. It was good but the guy sitting behind me recited every line to every skit. Killed him. Still, I had better seats than Letterman bass-arounder Will Lee. Other celebs spotted at the show: Janeane Garofalo, eating something, and Andy Richter, sporting a rakish beret... Will there ever be an Armada gig in NYC? What about Bruce's real life band? Rumors that Shadowy Man on a Shadowy Planet will not only replace but murder G.E. Smith are being started right here by me... or anybody who read the Conan O'Brien thing I wrote in issue #3 of Wind-Up zine, let me state for the record I like the show very much and I watch it almost every night. So there. But I'm standing by what I said about Barenaked Ladies... Jay Leno -- he's not funny... Greg Kinnear - does anybody think he's funny?... Do you know anyone who actually watches "F-Troop?" Why does Comedy Central keep switching their schedule around without telling me? Why don't they show "SCTV" anymore? Gotta make room to show "Benny Hill" eight times a day... I think there are too may states nowadays...

Fave shows '94 in no particular order: Fast Forward festival (both nights); Sunny Murray and Frank Lowe; Run On; Zusaan Kali Fasteau; 3Ds; Tortoise; Ass Ponys; 18th Dye; Elvis Costello and the Attractions; Charlambides; Johnny Cash... John Starks -- the Jandek of the New York Knicks?... Monty Williams -- that kid's got spunk... Rik Smits + mustache = touchdown... I still think Rudy Tomjanavich looks like Bryan Ferry... Rick Mahorn -- lookin' good!... How come in print ads for Pulp Fiction, Samual Jackson doesn't sport a jheri-curl?

Marianne Faithful's book is good ("... the silly notion if Mick as a disciple of Satan... a disciple of satin, perhaps!") So is Angie Bowie's ("Chapter 8: The Bisexual Boogie")... Elijah Wood -- I hat that kid... Where are the We Five when we really need them... that final episode of the Kids in the Hall... Apologies to everyone I told I was sure that Katherine Hepburn was dead.
