8/11/08--7" #5 Pre-Order Tuesday (8/12) at 3pm

Pre-sale for the 5th installment of our Jay Reatard 7" singles series begins this Tuesday at 3pm.

Here's how it's gonna to go....

On Tuesday, at 3pm EST we will reveal an email address on preorder.matadorrecords.com Please send an email to the revealed address with "Jay Reatard" as the subject line. Those that email us in time to get a record will see a buy-link appear in the store when they log into their account within the hour. Make sure to send an email from your Matador Store registered email address. To be clear, sending an email DOES NOT ensure that you'll get a copy. If you have yet to sign up for a Matador Store account please do so here.

We have even fewer copies of this 7" than we had of the last one so we're taking these extra steps to ensure that everyone gets a fair shake at getting a copy. That means less server lock-up, no waiting in the checkout line, and (hopefully) less confusion in general. Good luck!

7/31/08--MP3 from upcoming singles comp — out Oct 7
Jay Reatard's compilation of Matador singles comes out on October 7 and is entitled "Matador Singles '08." It contains all 6 of the limited edition 7"es that we have been releasing this year, less Deerhunter's cover of "Oh, It's Such A Shame," and with the addition of one extra track. Since single #5 has 3 songs, that makes 13 songs total. We're currently up to single #4 with #5 on the way in three weeks.

Track listing will be:

1. See/Saw - 7" #1
2. Screaming Hand - 7" #1
3. Painted Shut - 7" #2
4. An Ugly Death - 7" #2
5. Always Wanting More - 7" #3
6. You Mean Nothing To Me - 7" #3
7. Fluorescent Grey - 7" #4
8. Trapped Here - 7" #5
9. Hiding In My Hole - 7" #5
10. Dead On Arrival - 7" #5
11. No Time - 7" #6
12. You Were Sleeping - 7" #6
13. I'm Watching You - extra track

For those of you who have stayed out of the 7" ordering fray, "Always Wanting More" was made available this spring on the Intended Play zipfile and free CD... that was the A-side of single #3.

Here is the A-side of single #1, "See/Saw:" "See/Saw" (mp3)

7/28/08-- 7" #5

That's right... three different sleeves, featuring pics of Jay, Stephen and Billy. (Sorry, we cannot accommodate requests for a specific sleeve, and webstore preorders will be limited to one per customer.) Tracks are "Trapped Here" on the A-side, and "Hiding Hole" and "DOA" on the B-side.

Release date is August 19.

We'll be announcing preorder information shortly and yes, we have a plan in place to deal with the problems we had on #4.

7/14/08
Because of a number of unfortunate complications and a few key mess-ups during the Jay Reatard pre-order today, we will be redoing it Tomorrow, Tuesday July 15th, at 3PM EST. We're very sorry to everyone about how frustrating this way today, and apologize for redoing it but at this point it's the only fair way to get the records out. Please see further explanation HERE Pre-order HERE tomorrow at 3PM

02/15/08 Coming April 8 - Jay Reatard “See Saw” b/w “Screaming Hand” 7"

The first 7″ in Jay Reatard’s singles series for Matador, “See Saw” b/w “Screaming Hand”, will be in shops April 8 (preorders available from us, soon). Recorded at Shattered Studios this past January, both songs are unlikely to disappoint those who’ve been pestering us EVERY FUCKING DAY with questions about when these singles are coming out. Sure, the customer-is-always-right. But the customer isn’t always polite. Is it really necessary to threaten a hardworking label general manager with bodily harm? Is there any acceptable reason for someone to leave me a voice mail stating “I know what you’re wearing and I’m watching you right now?”

OK, admittedly, that message came in several weeks before we announced we were working with Jay. But regardless, this is an awesome single that totally lives up to the crazily high standards Jay Reatard has set, and we fully expect it will quell your consumerist fury for at least a day before we start being threatened about single no. 2.

12/17/07 Jay Reatard and Matador

(pic taken from Jimmybuttons’ Flickr page)

After months of public speculation, late night phone calls and a fascinating thread on a bulletin board other than our own, we’re pleased to announce Matador will be releasing six limited edition singles in 2008 by the wildly prolific Jay Reatard.

Singles will be in strictly limited editions. We’ve not figured out the exact scheme yet, but given our commitment to the customer-always-being-angry, rest assured the numbers will be lower than you’d like.

For those not nearly hung up on the collector skum scenery, all 6 7?’s will be compiled for a subsequent CD and LP release.

Jay’s blog can be found here. His myspace page, here. We’ll have some real info about this early in the new year.
