has anyone heard either of the new DFA releases - J.O.Y. and pixeltan? i'm actually not even sure when they're out but i read a quick preview and they both sound great (naturally).

If the Pixeltan's as butt-shakin-good as their Troubleman 12" I'll be pumped...

I've heard the Pixeltan one, but it didn't strike me as particularily memorable. I do remember liking what I heard, though. Both of these 12"ers can be heard on DFA Radio at DFA's site: http://www.dfarecords.com/
along the lines of the dfa, has anyone heard the new dead combo lp on output? i dig their song on the channel 3 comp.

is it true that DFA have done a big money sellout?

In what sense? That they hooked up the label with a major, or they're working with someone popular? They recorded a song with Britney Spears for her last album and it was scrapped, if that's what yr alluding to.

"NYC Electro Pioneers Liquid Liquid"? Well, I guess the bass and mics required electricity....

continuing the discussion of the compilation, i know more than earl and myself have bought it (or have heard it at least), so pipe up. the set is enormous and totally engaging from front to back -- as far as 2k4 releases (not necessarily albums) are concerned, this is top 5 material.
the highlights for me:
"bellhead" by liquid liquid
"dance hall modulator dub" by the juan maclean
"casual friday" by black leotard front
"endless happiness (eye remix)" by black dice
"sunplus (dfa mix)" by j.o.y.
"el monte" by delia gonzalez and gavin russom (in the disc 3 mix)
ALL of disc 3
yo, tinobeat, i tried to gmail you some mp3s but it exceeded my limit. i'll get back to it later.

the DFA comp is amazing. I still maintain that "El Monte" is the best thing that label or any label has released in a long time...
funny, I just tried sending funkadunk a coupla tracks but they were too big. its that kinda day, I guess..
I haven't heard the compilation proper, but I love a lot of the stuff that's on it.
For sending things, try dropload.com (http://dropload.com).

i am totally smitten with discs 1 + 2 and STILL haven't gotten to disc 3. but yeah "casual friday" and "sunplus" are awesome. i really dig the two pixeltan tunes "get up, say what" and "that's the way i like it" too.
i also like how you can line up the three CD sleeves to form a giant DFA logo. reminds me of the backs of the old garbage pail kids cards.

Does anybody know what the limit is? I emailed Tinobeat an entire deleted Matador album (and he's doing like-wise. IN YER FACE, somebody...) Anyhoo, I tried to send two files at once and they said it was too large (maybe 17 megs) but I was able to fire off a 14 meg file with no problems. Is 15 the limit, or are single files okay, multiple ones the problem?

well, I thought 10MB was the limit, so I have no clue.

the first file I sent was 11 megs, no problem. the second file was 19 megs or so (long songs, but also encoded at 320 kbs), and gmail told me to eff off...
I dunno. I'll try later...
Seriously man, I use dropload.com all the time for this sort of thing and have never run into a file size problem.

cool, will look into it...
Funky, I've been having some trouble with this, so I'm gonna try the dropload tomorrow and hopefully it'll work a bit faster...

Great fucking compilation. Blown away.
Just heard the comp yesterday for the first time, and it was also the first time I'd heard the DFA Pixteltan stuff.
The improvement over their original Troubleman EP is completely mind-boggling (and I liked that EP).

couldn't have said it better myself. I love love loved that TMU 12". but the DFA tracks are just so much better..

are the TMU pixeltan songs a similar style? the DFA pixeltan tracks might be my favorite cuts on the compilation, so so good.

The TMU Pixeltan 12" trax are a bit rawer. I can't remember if they were recorded by DFA (like their track on the TMU Mix Tape Comp, which is one of my favorites), but its not as clean as the new 12" and the comp trax. but yes, they're definitely coming from the same place.
Either way, that EP is highly recommended.

LCD soundsystem's "yr city's a sucker" (the b-side to "movement") has leaked. it feels like a b-side, but they really can do no wrong. nothing mindblowing but great production and percussion, really textured. from the other songs, it's probably closest to the "yeah" pretentious mix.
i love how each new LCD track expands their sound - that full-length couldn't come soon enough....

I just got this 7" today but haven't thrown it on the deck yet. I have heard "Movement" though, and its awesome, totally my favorite new song by The Fall...
Have you heard the Give It Up 7"? The b-side to that one suggests that all their "doing no wrong" built up in to one very huge and unlistenable wrong, and its called "Tired."
edit to add: wow, this is post #999 for me. my next one had better be meaningful. I need it to be perfect! with exactly the right thread! with the perfect music playing... er...

"tired" is definitely their worst song and by a longshot, but i actually have grown to like it. i put the first three singles back-to-back on a CD though, so i'm always used to hearing "tired" between "give it up" and "yeah" ... a transition song. and there, it works. especially the contrast btwn the shitty production and the start of "yeah." but if it had its own side of a 7", i'm sure i'd never listen to it....
[and is "tired" worthy of post 1000? i dunno, that's a tough one.]
