and so the day is finally here. the release of Earthquake Glue, and better than that is the release of those 25 golden tickets, entitling the handler of those tickets a copy of Hardcore UFO's. is today my day? will i find a golden ticket?
i believe i might.
i was at my girlfriend's house last night, getting ready to watch Family Guy when I remembered that VH1's I Love the 70's started last nigiht. i caught the end of it, and the final segment was about Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. ok. After that, we turn to Cartoon Network to find Family Guy on, and it's the Willy Wonka parody episode, in where the Pawtucket Brewery is going to be giving a tour for the very first time, and four lucky people will be allowed in. to get in, they must find one of four seascrolls placed in a bottle of Pawtucket Patriot beer. weird, eh?
and so, i explained this to my friend Gianni for our 8am Mcgriddle, and he says it's my destiny to find a golden ticket. i hope i do.

Sigh, some of us don't even have the chance of getting it. And I was unable to get the album yesterday, so it looks llike I'm sharing the release date with you guys.

Good luck guys!
By the way, due to the blackout, a bunch of stores may have gotten their shipments late..... so you may have trouble finding the record in your local store today.
I would imagine that the blackout will have affected Insound, and certainly the shipping companies, as well, so those of you who preordered may not receive the record today either.

Patrick,
Any idea why Bob didn't include lyrics?

How's this for a reason, from the man himself:
“Almost every song on the record could be on college radio. It's poppier, it's more melodic, I think. And the packaging's really cool. Although I'm not gonna include the lyrics. I don't think it's lyrically as good as the last one. On
Universal Truths and Cycles most of the songs started off as poems, I wrote the melodies later. Wheras on this one the music came first, so it was a bit more difficult for the lyrics to be poignant, or whatever. (Laughs) Though I don't know if you can call my lyrics poignant!“
I live near cambridge, which is south east of england for those of you who don't know. Hopefully Matador would have been able to get some copies out here. I've waited too long, and I get no chance of winning the boxsset damn it.

I got it on freakin' Saturday from Luna Records. No golden ticket though. Still trying to take it all in. Not as immediate as a lot of their stuff. Maybe that's why Matador is streaming it on release day instead of before.
got mines, yo.
report from nyc: as of this afternoon, kims and sounds didn't have copies of it. other music did.

What's the package like? Is it one of those plastic thingies inside or a slide in like UTAC? Just credits and no lyrics?

Does Bob think we only want to read his poignant lyrics? Oh well most of it is easy to understand. And I guess it's always fun to figure out the lyrics like on the old REM albums.
Argh MVC didn't have it, that was my only available option, gonna have to order it from amazon now, pronto. (the trains being late also REALLY made my day today).
FYI on the New York City stores. The Blackout has thrown a bit of a wrench into this street date, but most of the stores that deal with us here in the city have ordered the record with the exception of Sounds on St. Mark's. I expect them to do an order today. Some of the stores pick up orders and some have them shipped. Mondo Kim's has them shipped so I imagine that the CDs were still in transit or they were still in the back waiting to be priced or something.
Take Care

Still haven't got mine in L.A. Ordered it 4 weeks ago.

got to tape traders around 8ish to see they had 3 copies of Earthquake Glue [might of had more, i'm not sure.] i picked up No. 31475 [guess of these 20,000 they are number 00001-20000].
i got no golden ticket [blast!] nor did my friend gianni, but i got something .. weirder, i guess you could call it.
gianni opened his and showed me the sticker, i opened mine to find no sticker. i took the cd out to see it behind the tray, lodged away forever .. granted i could try and get it out, but in doing that i'd practically tear it and such. do i win anything special for mine coming like that?
ain't it a bitch?

Still not got it. MATADOR, why must you do this to me?

Still waiting for the CD to show up from Matador, but I picked up the vinyl yesterday at a local chain store (!) to help pass the time.
I think this is my favorite GBV, and I've been a fan since UTBUTS.

Ladt,
I swear we don't mean to. I've alerted our European folks to your predicament - they should be able to recommend somewhere close to you where you can get it.
Everyone else: please be patient - the blackout has completely slowed things down over here (and there are still 2500 businesses in Manhattan that are not up and running yet).
Best
Patrick
That comment was meant to be light hearted Patrick, but thanks for following it up, I've now ordered it on amazon, now I have to rely on the post office to do its job. I swear most labels don't have such a good relationship with their buyers. I probably wouldn't even had known about he problem if it was most other labels, so thanks Patrick.
Patrick informs me that you are near Cambridge UK. I have checked with our UK distributor and there are multiple copies at HMV and Virgin in Cambridge. I am not too familiar with your local indie stores in that area but would be more than happy to try and chase them up.
Thanks Mike, but I can't get into Cambridge and if I'd known I couldn't get it from London, of all places, I would've ordered it from my local shop. No worries now, it's ordered and hopefully I should get it on friday. Meanwhile, I'll listen to the album on stream online.

Hey Ladt, since you're English, you should have some expertise in this subject. We've heard over the years that Bob sings in an English accent. I've never really heard this in his singing although admitedly most English rock singers don't even sound English to me when they sing (Liam Gallagher, Shane MacGowan and Joe Strummer excepted). So do you hear this phony English accent when Bob sings?
Ladt, there are plenty of London stores that had Earthquake Glue on Monday. I am checking into MVC. As they are a chart orientated chain there is every chance they aren't carrying Earthquake Glue, unfortuantely. Hopefully Amazon will provide a speedy service.
Ladt, you were unlucky in your search at MVC. Every MVC outlet got a copy of Earthquake Glue. Somebody must have beaten you to it. I hope you asked at the counter so they were spurred to reorder.
Mike or Patrick,
Any estimated time of arrival for the Matador EG pre-orders? I received my shipment confirmation email on 8/14 for an LP & CD but they haven't shown up yet. I understand the blackout has slowed things but just wondering if you have any estimates.
Thanks,
EG-less in TX

Yeah, well my dad works in London so went to have a look for me, he asked at the counter and they said they'd have more stock in five days or smoething, but I'm too impatient and amazon's shipped my order. With a bit of luck it'll be waiting on my doorstep.
On another note, I don't think bob sings with an English accent, (or should that be british), and most people I know think he sounds like Michael stipe who isoounds very american. I mean, not many singers have a typically british voice in britain anyway, really only Jarvis Cocker and Billy Bragg being to examples of people who do at the moment.

And the word from insound is:
"hey there. we had them all ready to be shipped on friday, but then...
all preorders were shipped out monday night. a few insound.com pre-orders
werent shipped out until tuesday am but the matador ones are all out the
door."
In other words, everyone should be receiving their copies very shortly! Sorry for the unavoidable delay folks - I know it's hard to wait.

Hey Amazon delivered the abum today, so it turned out OK in the end.

my pre-ordered LP copy of EG came on monday, so it hit the ol' tinobeat ranch prior to street date. I think that's the first time I've pre-ordered something anf gotten it early! rockin!
almost bought the CD copy a few times when wandering around record stores though on the off-chance that a ticket might be found.. but then I had to stop myself.
whatta rekkid though! yow! Its grown on me tremendously. could be the best since UTBUTS... maybe... I've only been listening to it for about 2 weeks or so (a friend lent me a promo copy before I got the LP in the mail)

Finally - my pre-ordered CD arrived today.
CD is number 31936(!), so much for pre ordering. I'll never do it again!

I got mine yesterday too. No 10222. No golden ticket though/ I figure the chances are 25/20000 or 1/800. Not bad for the lottery but pretty bad for a GBV fan.
