View Full Version : Brighten The Corners New Release Date: 12/9
Hey everyone a little bit of bad news for those of you that pre-ordered the Brighten The Corners Deluxe Reissue. Due to some delays at the vinyl pressing plant, the release date's been pushed back to 12/9/08.
We'll do our best to get the records out to you as soon as we received them.
You can read a bit more about it here....

Even though I've been waiting a month now for an order let me be the first one to say a few things:
1. Matador should be cut some slack for this... they're clearly trying to push it out before year's end and the Live Vinyl is going to be killer. Totally worth it.
2. Is the street date for non-preorders still... whatever it used to be (can one pick it up in, say, a borders then?)
3. Maybe you guys could add an extra MP3 cos of the extra wait and all? Not trying to look a gift horse in the mouth or anything... just saying. I know PSOI is off the table, but perhaps the single version of "And Then..." (which was edited, sure, but wasn't a scratch vocal or at least was cleverly edited as to not appear as one and anyway was only released on vinyl) or the original instrumental version of "Birds..." would suffice. Make it available Turkey Day as a not too subtle hint to the fans to be grateful for all the bonuses the BEGN progam affords them. Extend the goodwill and let it envelope us all.
Just a suggestion.

I think having the instrumental 'Birds' up there is a great suggestion. I'm sure most people already have it on MP3, but it would be nice to get a FLAC version of it.
In either case, we still have the stream to tide us over. It's a really great package.

Will we also be able to download the Live album in mp3/FLAC, as was done with the latest Malkmus BEGN?
It sounds great and all, but I'm not about to buy a turntable so I can play one record. And I'm not about to get excited about pre-ordering something I can't listen to.

Dave had already mentioned there will be no DL for the live album, but I'll come out boldly and suggest that any real fan of music should have a turntable.

I'll bet various file-sharing networks will have it about 2 hours after release. But a legal download would be better.

Riiiiiiiiight. And "real Americans" vote Republican. That's as bold as it is stupid.
I guess I'm just not kewl enough to like Pavement anymore.

At the very least, a used turntable is a good investment, because if you live within reasonable distance of a used record store, old LPs are CHEAP.
Alternately, a limited edition live LP is also a good investment.

hey hey! settle down, champ! Its not about being cool. Its about giving yourself every option (its really not that expensive to get a decent turntable setup) to listen to great music. If you wanna close the door to everything that doesn't have a legit digital component, be my guest, I'm not the one missing out on awesome stuff.

Hey Gox! I live right next to the "village of rock" in Silver Spring. Nice to see some other DC area MBBers.
And I wholly concur with tino on the turntable issue. Being cool is only secondary to the expanded options you have in music as well as better sound quality. You can get something decent at Crooked Beat records in Adams Morgan for not too much money.
Hey Winterversion, you STILL haven't gotten your record?
Can you email me so we can figure out what's going on here.

I see your points, I suppose, about vinyl. But I've got a mortgage, two car payments, and the one additional kid turned into twins so now I've got three. That's my salary covering all that.
So, sorry to get all personal with the details, but no matter how affordable turntables and vinyl are, I don't have the capital to go invest in another format, start collecting another medium...all because of one record that I'd dearly like to be able to hear.
I'm not telling anyone else to give up their vinyl. I'm just saying there should be an option for people who would like to pay Matador for their product, don't own turntables, and don't intend to own turntables. The vinyl-only thing seems stupid to me, and I can't understand how it's smart for Matador to cut off a whole bunch of customers (especially when what they're selling is a reissue! i.e. asking people to pay for the same record twice! Willingly!).
Because I'm telling you...I bought every other reissue as soon as I could. This time I'm saving my money, because $25.99 for six unreleased tracks just ain't cutting it. I already own the rest.

the BEGN website seems to indicate December 19 not the 9th:
"6. Dec. 19- Pick up your copy of the album, PLUS a vinyl LP containing an unreleased live show AND a free poster"
what's the correct date?

December 9, everywhere (no going early at Borders!)

Actually, we've already resolved that, if you're talking about the $6.50 charged on my credit card (it was for the jay reatard single #4 I ordered in July and got fine).

Hi Paul,
It is. Email dean@matadordirect.com. Since it is the weekend, you probably won't hear from him until Monday, but he should be able to get you up and running then.
