I think Shearwater's great, but I'm only familiar with what Matador's released. Has anyone heard their older stuff and what are they like?

It's worth hearing the Thieves EP and the original version of Palo Santo.

The stuff before then is mostly very different.

I loved Everybody Makes Mistakes (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:jifexqyaldje). It is different from their recent stuff, which is a good thing. Otherwise, there would be no point in hearing it, right?

I wouldn't say that the early stuff is very different. I'm a fan, so I sort of drink the kool aid on most of their stuff, but the first album is of particular interest of one likes extremely tuneful and emotionally charged music.

that'd be the dissolving room...

Yeah, I figured it would be somewhat different with Will Scheff being involved in the earlier recordings.

Thanks for the suggestions. Looks like you can't really go wrong with shearwater, old or new.
