View Full Version : Surprised this album isn't generating more conversation.

I confess I've heard only a few tracks, but I like what I hear. The reviews are, for the most part, very postive as well. What say the rest of you? Might this be a contender for some year-end lists?

I'm slowly warming to it. I must confess that shearwater has been one of my favorite bands for a while, but the odd move of re-recording their last record, which I thought was their best, in what turned out to be an inferior version, just sort of made me shake my head a little bit.
I like this new one, but it seems like it might be the 'move toward the mainstream with an album that is sort of a smoothed out version of what we do' move...not that that's always a bad thing...

I know Elijah's a fan as well, but I thought we were on our own here. Glad to see others are as well. I laid down my feelings about this album in another thread so am at risk of being the Shearwater gonk here, but what the hell, listening to it at work on Friday I was all overcome. It's so overwhelmingly and intensely beautiful I'm also afraid of how I'll react to hearing them live (assuming Natalie's getting to all the right places ;))
edit - Larry, I understand what you mean, but I read the last three/four records as a distinct progression; a clear path has been forged which became very apparent with Thieves and I'm very excited about where it's going.

agreed. again, I don't want to give the impression that I'm maligning this band, at all...I was just sort of trying to describe the way it was hitting me.
and while I do agree with you, I think the difference between the path that the original version of the last album and path that the re-recorded version took or led would be an interesting thing to think about.
that's a terrible sentence, but I'm sticking with it. ha
