SURPRISE!!!
The first 7" in Jay Reatard (http://www.myspace.com/jayreatard)’s singles series for Matador, “See Saw” b/w “Screaming Hand”, goes up for pre-order TODAY at 3pm Eastern Time. Because of the extremely limited quantity of this record we will only honor one copy per customer so plans to stockpile these and send your kids to college isn't going to work this time around. Also, once they're gone, they're gone so don't dilly-dally!!
ORDER HERE (http://www.matadorrecords.com/store/storesearch.php?artist=Jay+Reatard)

Some copies of this are going to make it out to retail, right? I can't imagine this whole series being nothing but mail-order, but I could be wrong. Someone please clarify for me, thx.

Yes, some copies will be at retail. Depending upon where you live, however, I would be at the store on Tuesday (or maybe before, if you patronize a store that breaks street dates).

Yes. lots and lots will end up in record stores. As Patrick mentioned they may not last too long there though. Do you have any other options than Plan 9? Not that you need one, as they order from us and I'm sure if you made your desire to buy one of these clear to them they'd come through for you, but if it is a different store I'd say to check with them to make sure they've ordered it etc.

I used to work at Plan 9, so I'm not really *that* concerned with not being able to get them when they show up, I was just briefly worried that for some reason you guys wouldn't be shipping any to retail if the pre-orders were through the roof.
I've got Bob Schick on the case, so I feel like I'm in good hands.

No subscription series... slightly disappointed. Still looking forward to it.

A subscription would save me $$$ on postage (I assume)... The thought of $10.50 each time around is making me wince a bit.

pssh, with your fancy high-powered Irish currency, 10 withering little US Dollars is nothing...

Would you like to edit that post to sympathise with my plight, BUDDY? ;) Think of it this way - how many records would $63 get you with your cheap as chips records over there?!
Granted at this stage I'm used to records costing a bunch in Ireland and the UK. All I'm saying is it would be nice if *my* purchases could be stockpiled to save on delivery costs. Because I'm special.
Also, has postage gone up a lot in recent months? Was doing some shredding this afternoon and the delivery on my Times New Viking 7" was invoiced at $4.50. That's a $6 increase since, what, November was it?
Hey Fiona,
Sorry to say you're right and our postage rates have gone up in the last month. We did a little test of our postage rates and realized we were actually losing money shipping some orders. We didnt' raise out costs for a long time, the post office did however. Sadly, UPS rates went up (to reflect what they actually cost) domestically as well, but we now offer USPS to offset the increase.
About the subscription service, we couldn't offer it because we have no way to guarantee delivery to every customer. Besides, who doesn't want the fun of nervously pacing around the mouse waiting for the moment they become available online? They still call that fun right?
Hope this still works for you guys and hope you enjoy your records!

Well… you could always order them with a friend's American address, and get that friend to send them all together when they've arrived. That’s even better than a subscription, because you also get the added excitement of hoping said friend doesn't play the records on their Fisher Price record player and eat bacon and egg sandwiches off them until it's time to sent them your way.

Excellent idea Elijah, finding someone who neither owns a record player nor cooks at home was tough, mind.
i feel sorry for the rube who gets stuck with this chore.

you already got it?!?! oh hell yeah! I see jay tonight, is he still only playing 13 minute sets with the black keys? not that I mind.
I'm wondering did Jay play everything on these new singles recordings as he did on 'Blood Visions' or did the band play also? Loving this first single, btw, especially "Screaming Hand".
trappedinstatic: how was the show last night? what was Jay's set like?

unfucking believable set last night. Ive never seen a band so tight, or rock so hard. 30 minutes, no chatter just ripping through the songs at probably twice their normal speed. He played see/saw which was awesome, about half of the other songs in the set were from blood visions, the other half from various 7"s. My only problem was the goddamned black keys fans that didn't have any clue what they were witnessing, some even sat down during jay's set. It was such a shame. after the 30 minutes and without even a glance out to the audience jay walked off stage. I was left ass-exploded with no idea what to do with myself after. god daaaaymn geena!
"see/saw" is completely lodged in my head.

The bassist, Sweet Stephen Pope, told me that it's just Jay on the first one, but he and Billy will be on some of the Matador singles.
I still haven't got my copy in hand (showed up at the wife's office today), but when I saw Jay in Chicago about a month ago, he played both songs and they were killers.

So, is it too early to ask when the second single is due?
That cover art for the Intended Play sampler said that "Always Wanting More" was from single #3, due in June. I know these things are subject to change, but hopefully this means that single #2 is coming in May. Yes?
