Scout Niblett sings on 'Peoria Lunch Box Blues', off of Songs: Ohia's new album. It's available on SoulSeek, you should download it, it's fantastic.

Scout is great, I like her a lot, but she is (I hate to say this) sort of a lesser Chan. It's like watching I Dream of Jeannie when you really want to see Bewitched. BUT YOU SHOULD STILL LISTEN TO HER. yes.

You missed a blinder of a set mate. Was it the bush hall gig? She was so cool. I only got there early to get front seats (which i got) and she was blinding, although there was a pitiful boring binel, unoutstanding, staturated, irratating performance by someone who wants to be nick drake after. I wish i died before he came on.

...his name is Chris Mack and he performs under the name James Orr Complex.

Amazing voice, brilliant guitar player....and I think he's pretty happy just being himself.

sorry you were bored. I thought his sets were the highlight of both nights.

Scout Niblett was fantastic at the Cat Power gig - I only got to see the one night - the whole night was pretty special! I've not played the new ep yet (we don't have a turntable in here, but I do now have one at home after my last one broke) - saw her about a year ago supporting Neil Halstead too, and shes pretty consistent...

her new album should be released in May time on Too Pure.. can't wait to hear it!

"were you actually at the gig cat power and scout nibblet played??! Their originality blew him away."

yes, I was at both nights.

With no disrespect intended to Chan Marshall (whom I have nothing but great admiration for) or Scout Nibblet, I don't think either performer blew Chris Mack away. Nor do I think he merely held his own in such esteemed company, either.

but that's all just opinion. I recomend you check out The James Orr Complex CD on Rock Action and you can judge for yourself.

and yes, to whoever asked, Chris is in the band Eska.

Well that's your opinon i guess....people i talked to throught he was dire (which he was). My girlfriend actually fell asleep when he was on!!! And thats true!!

I'd rather not buy those albums he's on, i don't make a habbit of wasting my money.

from where I was sitting/standing, people were fairly into it. as was Chan M.

But thanks for your comments. While I'm not entirely sure what the repeated bashing of a guy who doesn't have the Matador or Beggars machines behind him accomplishes in this instance, you're more than entitled to your opinion. Personally, I think Chris is a stunning guitar player, a brilliant songwriter and an absolutely compelling presence on stage or on CD.

And when I encouraged the public to check to his stuff out, I only meant those who could spell.

I am fully confident that more than a few Cat Power fans will appreciate the James Orr Complex.

(I'm sorry your girlfriend fell asleep. I'm certain this had nothing to do with her date for the evening).

That Scout Nibble chick wears a wig. At least Chris Mack performs under his own hair.

personally? don't you mean you as the person who "owns" him, or is im (< that's him, but i can't spell). Thanks for point out my slight dyslexia :)

My chick must of fell asleep because of me, yeah! Sure she mentioned that she felt she was at stars in your eyes audition to be nick drake...

I think it proves public opinon at the end, when he was standing outside at the end of the night and scoutt nibblet had lots of support round her asking for autographs (including me :)). Also, i must of saw a diffrent audience, as most of them were chatting away while he was on. *yawn*

who owns who? I've got nothing to with the James Orr Complex other than liking the guy's music...and hoping that nobody takes your OR my word for it. I encourage everyone to make up their own mind.

But I do like your suggestion that perhaps I _am_ the artist in question. That would be some neat trick ---- I wouldn't mind trading my guitar skills with those of Chris Mack.

And as far as opinion is concerned, whatever some thin cross section of the public thinks of one gig is no barometer of whether or not others might dig the James Orr Complex. Certainly you aren't suggesting that Scout Niblett being asked for her autograph after the set is indicative of anything (other than you wanting her autograph)? Jon Bon Jovi, OJ Simpson and Cliff Richard are regularly asked for their autographs ---- perhaps more often than Chan Marshall, Scout Niblett and Chris Mack combined. Does that make any of them more or less valid as artists?

Those of us who can remember back in the days before Chan Marshall was signed to Matador, Smells Like or Runt, will recall some less than universally beloved gigs. Not too many autograph hounds. Few standing ovations. On at least one occasion (thank you, Brownies), the plug being pulled by a soundman (who presumably thought the audience was getting antsy).

I'm not saying that Chan was vindicated by becoming the popular, household name she is today. Some of us (perhaps not the majority at the time) thought she was awesome then (as we do now), even if some rude assholes in the audience were too busy chatting away.

All kidding aside, dyselxia is a serious condition and I hope you get some help from the proper place. This bulletin board isn't that place.

dude, gerard i went to a GBV show in '96 at the 9:30 club and Chan opened to a big ol' chatty crowd. I think triple fast action was there too.

anyways there was this curly haired british guy who was from some label there. any idea who he was? he was kinda holding court with some of the kids in the balcony, and then i met Mitch Mitchell.

chan was awesome though, even through the shitty crowd. She wouldn't open her eyes, and kept trembling, but stood on that big-ass empty stage and put it out there. and i went and bought myra lee at a tower records the next day.

anyway nothing to do with scout niblett's wigs or james orr or the fact that public opinion can suck it, but wtf.

memories... in the corner of my mind... misty water colored...
