and in the meantime, there's a new comp of their WFMU appearances to keep us busy. no tracklist on their site, unfortunately. from their email list:

Hey everybody,

Just want to let you know that anyone looking for a curious way to
while away the time until our new record comes out in September can
go to yolatengo.com and pick up a copy of Yo La Tengo Is Murdering
the Classics, a compilation of our appearances on the WFMU
fundraising marathon. For 70 excruciating minutes, you will hear us
butchering some of your favorite songs, played by us in the studio at
WFMU with no preparation, no rehearsal, suggested by the listeners
who pledge money to the station while we're on the air. It's more fun
than going to the dentist . . . barely.

yeah, i'm psyched to see what's on this! especially if the recording quality is good ... i've only heard crappy streams of their WFMU marathons.

i didn't believe it on pitchfork when james mcnew says it, but mtvnews.com says that according to a matador spokesperson, I Am Not Afraid Of You, And I Will Beat Your Ass is the title of the new Yo La Tengo album, their 12th, due on September 12.

please say it's so, cause that deserves album title of the year.

September 12. September 12. September 12. September 12 it is!

That would be a righteous album title man

and Kid B, you know that you are on a message board and that radiohead's recirds are only made possible, because of modern digital technology

EDIT - Oh whoops sorry that kid b comment was directed to the sonic youth thread

starting the album off with the ten minute "Pass the Hatchet" was such a great idea, it sounds like an Electr-O-Pura outtake.

so it's out there, huh? i was thinking about being good and waiting for this one but that might be tough.

yeah, but from what i hear the leak has some issues. all the songs fade at awkward times. might be a preview copy that's out there circulating. the way to note all this is that the copy of "beanbag chair" included in the leak is 2:02, and matador's mp3 they posted is 3:02. so i'm thinking all the songs are probably short by a minute or so.

and what is up with them titling a song "happiness is a warm gun" ? no covers on this record, but titles that are identical to others?

all the tracks on the leaked copy have early fadeouts, yes. I wasn't sure if it was intentional or just ripped wrong, but since I'm gonna be buying this when it comes out, I can wait for the real deal to hear it all.

if it's intentional, that would suck, but could play along with the phrase that the album title holds.

this is somewhat off-topic but i didn't want to start a new thread..

a ylt dvd was announced in the dec 2004 matador email newsletter.. the dvd was supposed to be released "sometime in 2005" .

whatever happened to that idea.. i haven't heard anything about it since. it'd be swell if there's a nice dvd along with the new album release..(like the free dvd that came with burma's obliterati)

does anyone have any further info on this?

Patrick

The DVD is canceled. There is an early, edited version of the CD floating around. The official music is "Beanbag Chair" on this website and many others right now, one track on an eMusic custom card that will be distributed free at the Belle shows in Baltimore, New York and Los Angeles in early July, and a third MP3 in mid-to-late July... plus some more special surprises.

thanks Patrcik.

i haven't heard the preview CD but i think i'll just wait for the september release. i'm definitely looking forward to those MP3s and the "special surprises".

yeah i'm staying away from the edited version, fadeouts are bad news...

You do know that "We're An American Band" was originally a song by Grand Funk Railroad right?
