I've been compiling a collection of the original versions of the songs that Laura has covered on her albums . A few tracks have been difficult to get. Maybe someone can suggest sources for the following -
Somewhere , Some Night as recorded by Melba Montgomery
Pile of Woe by Joe Flood
Vaguest Idea and Do You Ever Think Of Me by Dan Prater
Big Wheel by J.Godfrey and J.Tepper
And Still and Conqueror's Song by Dave Schramm
I reckon , besides the Montgomery track ( released on a album with Dottie West in 1965 , according to 'net sources) , most of these are songs that were not recorded by the writers . However , maybe someone knows better!

Conqueror's Song:

Pile of Woe is on a forthcoming Joe Flood album, A New Kind Of Blue, on Diesel Only, although this may be a cover of Laura's cover of his song.

I have a version of this by George Usher ; however I think I'll search a bit more than pay the money this seller wants !
There's a neat photo of the record's picture sleeve so now I know what to watch out for.

Decoys - Not the Tremblin' Kind / Good Doctor 7" (Trounce Records, catalog # TR 101, 1982)
' 1982 rootsy NYC powerpop band featuring George Usher. No Depression fans may note that the A-side was covered by Laura Cantrell on her first album. I'v been buying records for a long time in NYC and this is the first time I've ever seen this one. '

The delay in posting a link for a MP3 is because , sadly, the sound quality is awful. I got a 7" vinyl pressing of Melba's 1964 performance. However , no amount of cleaning ( physically of the disc and sonically of the sound ) makes it listenable.
The search resumes!
