If the mixes I have are, as noted, probably shitty mixes, then yes, some seriously hott shitt. Because if rough mixes are this good, the final product must be phenomenal...
though its got some stiff-ass competition if its gonna be top 10. is it better than Joanna Newsom, Destroyer, Oneida, The Gris Gris, Of Montreal, et al?
we'll see...
it'd be great if it was... because then this year would be a really special one...

The Gris Gris is totally my new favorite band around...
some crazy texas-style psych rock with more on the rock side of things. I dunno, its just so scrappy and awesome.
I actually wrote a somewhat lengthy post on my internerd homepage (http://papercities.org/2004/08/apple-pie-and-genocide.html) about The Gris Gris and their frontman, Greg Ashley (who also has a killer solo record out). mp3s too!
anyway, yeah, I'm really lovin this shit.

Somehow, I really relate to the sentiment in this article about being so consumed with something that you get physically ill.

After listening to Antics, I know the real reason he was sick...

Metacritic gives it "generally favorable", but a closer read reveals that many of the reviews are downright critical.
It's no "Yank Crime" is it?
It's very good. Of course that's my personal opinion, but I've read many positive reviews for it, too. Pitchfork media give it 8 and a half out of 10 and a very favourable write up. It currently has 15 reviews at amazon, every single one gives it 5 stars.
