My name is Von Babasin. I'm a bassist with a progressive jazz rock group from Los Angeles called ONOFFON.

What a coincidence, eh?

I started seeing the new Mission of Burma release popping up in my searches for our band name, since I have worked tirelessly by myself for eight years trying to promote our fully self produced and promoted music.

I have single handedly placed our music on more than 3,000 websites around the world, with listings on such industry respected sites as The All Music Guide, The Muze, iTunes, Amazon.com, TowerRecords.com, and many others.

I am also the son of one of the greatest bassist/producers in jazz history, Harry Babasin.

Drop me a line some time and we'll chat.

Cheers!

Sorry if this offends anyone. I actually tried to email Matador directly but it came back to me 'undeliverable'. So, I thought I would post here. Roger Miller was quite gracious when I emailed him.

I am not surprised you haven't heard of my father. I have him on recordings with Charlie Parker, Chet Baker, Louis Armstrong, and everyone else from that era of jazz. But, you have to be a jazz aficionado to be familiar with his work.

Cheers!

I know who Harry Babasin is. In fact, I have a nice recording of
'Jazz in Hollywood.' I just don't care for your method of self-promotion.

It's not the most interesting post ever, and it may be cleverly disguised fan, but at least there's a basis for his comments. Let's not be so territorial.

Excellent! Which one do you have? Is it one of the original Nocturne pressings? Is it the Harry Babasin Quintet? Or one of the others - Herbie Harper, Bud Shank, Bob Enevoldson? You know, Fresh Sound Records out of Barcelona, Spain, did a 3 CD box set of all eight original ten inch LPs, plus an 84 page booklet of interviews, photos, reviews, etc. that really is definitive west coast jazz of the 50's. If you can find it, it's well worth owning.

My father passed away in 1988. I've been working diligently over the last five years trying to garner interest in helping me build a jazz museum dedicated to west coast jazz. That's the Jazz In Hollywood link on my original post.

Sorry again, if I've offended you.

Peace...

Some of you young people need to wake the fuck up. Harry Babasin was a heavy dude (for real, "yo," as we might say in the Bronx) & this is pretty oblique way to "spam..." Had a new MoB record been named after me, I might be a bit surprised & curious too.

Henry Grimes Lives (also for real),

Thanks SPS - for the kind words about my dad.

Henry Grimes is great! Saw him with Nels and Alex Cline - they play the same kind of avant prog jazz rock we do.

With all due respect - I never heard of MoB before they started popping up in my searches. And, frankly, after hearing what they do, I don't think spamming a board of their fans would bring us many anyway - we don't play the same styles of music.

And you can only imagine what some people suggested we do. But I chose to introduce myself instead...

easy...

I've had quite a few people very confused because they think that this album is our new release...

Thanks Matador and Mission of Burma...
