so, I just read that apparently Lay of the Land got a 2/10 rating from NME, with the reviewer saying that it was only something a mother could love. I went onto NME's website so that I could read the review in full, but its not even up there.

Now, admittedly, I have only heard the first single off of the album, so I suppose I'm not in a position to critique the review, but I thought that News from Nowhere showed alot of promise, and a rating of two seems a little ridiculous, when you consider that they gave Limp freakin Bizkit a four. anyone else have any thoughts?

hey justin, if you set the options in the sechange section to show threads over the last 60 days, you'll see a thread called NME, You Harsh Bastards.

There's a lengthy discussion on this very topic that's quite interesting. My opinion is that the album is a grower and the band shows tons of promise, kicking it nicely on much of the album. A 2 rating is pretty much nuts.

At first I was unimpressed. Over the past few daze (6-8) listenings, it is growing on me, but I doubt it'll wind up on my years best. Perhaps my opinion will change when I see them open for GBV next week.

any other opinions lurking in the hinterlands??????
