A.E. is a former member of such ensembles as the Nuns, Rank & File, the True Believers, Buick McKane and a veteran of some stunning solo works for the Watermelon, Ryko and Bloodshot labels. Though I hate to contradict an esteemed colleague, the "cowpunk" tag is neither entirely accurate, nor does it do this man justice. Mr. Escovedo is a brilliant songwriter and his body of work compares favorably to those of Lou Reed, Bruce Springsteen, Nick Cave, Mark Eitzel, Richard Buckner or many others I could name. His musical career has had its ups and downs but he's a huge musical and personal inspiration to folks in Austin, TX and places much further flung. He was recently diagnosed with hepatitis C and cirrohsis of the liver. Other benefits have taken place in Austin, Chicago and Calgary and hopefully some more towns to come.

Yes, what he said!
Might I add that Sheila E. (yes, as in "The Glamorous Life") is his brother Pete's daughter.
