SLEATER-KINNEY

The Hot Rock

The Hot Rock The Hot Rock was produced by Nashville's Roger Moutenot, who came to the attention of the band through his work with Yo La Tengo. It was recorded at Avast in Seattle.

Carrie Brownstein and Corin Tucker started the band in 1994 in Olympia, WA. They went to Australia for kicks and hooked up with a drummer named Laura. They recorded SLEATER-KINNEY in Australia and released it on the Americna labels Chainsaw and Villa Villakula. In 1996, the band released its second record, Call the Doctor, on Chainsaw. Lots of people took notice, including prominent music critics. In order to tour, they enlisted a friend named Toni to play drums. Tony wanted to do other things, so Janet Weiss tried out. This trio was solid. The band released "Dig Me Out" in 1997 on Kill Rock Stars. They toured all of 1997 and 1998 in the U.S. and Europe, selling out shows everywhere.
